10/9/06 Enrichment Newsletter

Kindergarten Enrichment 10/09/06

The children are doing a great job learning both uppercase and lower case letters. This week we will continue to work on upper case and lower case letters and will introduce the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom 123. We will supplement our alphabet work with numbers, writing numbers, matching numbers to sets, etc.

Last week we started journaling. We listened to a book and drew a picture of our favorite part. We then either dictated our favorite part or wrote our favorite part down. I encourage the children to "say the word slowly and write what you hear." Even if all they can identify is one letter sound, soon they will begin to identify other letter sounds as well. This is a fun way to introduce writing to young minds. It helps strengthen phonics skills and opens up a new means of creative communication. If time allows, we will have at least one journaling day each week.
